Choosing a Summer Holiday in Greece

With its sandy beaches, warm climate and friendly locals, Greece is an ideal holiday choice for many British tourists. Whether you’re travelling as a couple, with a young family, or with a group of friends, you’re bound to find your perfect Greek holiday destination. We’ve found three of our favorites:

Miles of golden sand, blue seas, typically Greek villages and picturesque scenery: Corfu is perfect for couples and those wanting a calming and relaxing holiday. In many of Corfu’s resorts you will find cocktail bars, a variety of restaurants and cafes, and beautiful Mediterranean beaches. If you’re looking for a little more action, water-sports are commonplace on the island, including windsurfing, jet-skiing and banana boat rides. If you’re young and travelling with friends, you’ll probably be heading to Kavos, beautiful by day and lively by night, the town is host to over 100 nightclubs and dozens of cheap accommodation options. The local welcome young British tourists every summer, but we’d advise one of Corfu’s other resorts if you’re not looking to party! Flight times to Corfu’s major airport from most UK airports are just over three hours.

Virtually untouched by the mass-tourism market, Samos offers a truly traditional Greek experience with its traditional architecture and amazing scenery. Blend in with the locals in any of the island’s beautiful villages and get a real taste of what island life is all about. Whether it’s relaxing with a book on one of the secluded beaches, sampling the local fare from of the traditional market stalls or cafes, or simply exploring the island’s hidden treasures on foot; Samos provides the perfect getaway for those seeking to escape the hubbub of life at home. Flight times from London Gatwick are approximately four hours.

The Pelion
Situated on mainland Greece, the Pelion is a stunning peninsula full of rustic charm and traditional Greek life. With stunning sea views and mountain backdrops, you will find yourself lost in the astounding beauty of the area. The Pelion’s main tourist market is Greeks, so you can fully immerse yourself into the culture. Take a hike up the mountain, go for a swim in the wonderfully warm sea, and finish the day with a bite to eat in one of the area’s reasonably priced restaurants. Don’t forget to sample the fresh, locally caught fish, which is absolutely delicious and represents a true taste of Greece. Flights are available from major UK airports to Thessaloniki, with an approximate flight time of four to five hours followed by a three hour scenic drive to Pelion. Car hire is readily available at the airport, but be sure to book in advance to save any stress before your holiday begins!
