Reef HQ Aquarium.  If scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef terrifies you, you can still marvel at the vast aquatic flora and fauna of the Great Barrier Reef from the safety of the Reef HQ Aquarium.  The aquarium has 2 water tanks:  One containing small, non-predatory fish, while the other has several species of sharks and other predators.

Ross River and Riverland.  Riverland is a riverfront attraction, where you can visit an art gallery, eat at some of the restaurants, and even indulge in water sports and activities, such as swimming and wakeboarding.  It runs 11km along Ross River, and provides you with a great view of the Ross River, as well as the Ross Park, Loam Island and Pioneer Park.

Ross Park.  Ross Park has a picnic area and a viewing deck, which gives you a breathtaking view of the Ross River Dam’s concrete spillway.

Ross River Dam.  The shallow areas of the Ross River Dam give you a wonderful opportunity to see over 220 species of water birds, making this area a Wetland of National Significance.

Lake Paluma.  Enjoy a day of camping with your family beside Lake Paluma, a man-made lake in the World Heritage Rainforest.  This lake features a campsite, weather-proof shelters, and BBQs.  The nearby Big Crystal Creek and Small Crystal Creek feature some of the famous watering holes in Townsville.

But be warned:  due to the area’s population of Platypus and Eastern Water Dragons, bringing of pets are strictly prohibited.
