Travel Insurance for Retiree’s

Being safe while traveling is always important. Whether you are young and active or older and retired. That’s why travel insurance is a must for anyone going on holidays.

Unfortunately, it is getting a lot harder, complicated and more expensive for those over-65 to find a good travel insurance.

What if I have a medical condition?

Sadly, some providers believe the older you are, the more of a risk there will be. Especially if the person applying for the insurance has a medical condition. However, some insurance companies will let you get coverage even if you have a pre-existing condition.  Just make sure that when you are getting your travel insurance, always disclose any medical conditions you have. Also, most policies for over-50’s and over-65’s will have some form of cover for certain medical conditions. Always check the small print just in case the policy you are looking at doesn’t cover a condition you may have.

What Should You Be Looking for as a Retiree?

No matter what type of insurance policy you look at, it is important to understand what you will be covered for and what you would not be covered for. To do this, always read through the terms and conditions or alternatively, have someone read it for you. If there is still uncertainty, call the insurance providers customer service and speak to them.

The second thing to have in mind is costs and budgeting. In a lot of instances, it would be cheaper to buy a single trip policy that will cover you for just that trip. However, if you plan on traveling a lot, then a multi-trip policy will be the best choice.

Picking the Right Plan for You

There are a whole bunch of different travel insurance plans that cover a wide range of things. Again, it is best to plan ahead. Will you be just taking the single trip or will there be multiple trips? Will it just be you, or will others be traveling with you? All of these factor in to which plan you should pick. Thankfully, there are a few brilliant companies out there that will help you every step of the way and get you set up on a perfect plan.

Are There Costs Involved?

There are a lot of variables that could ultimately cost more than others. For instance, age is a big factor in cost, where you will be travelling to, how long, etc. However, with a little bit of research, you will find the company that suits you best.

Adrenaline Junkie?

It is surprising how many retiree’s plan to go on an adrenaline fuelled trip. Are you one of these thrill seekers? This will factor into the policy you decide to go with. Some companies will already include the likes of activities such as golf and football. However, if you want to go skydiving or big game hunting, there are likely to be extra costs.

With all travel insurance, it is key to research for the best cover with the best price possible. There are a lot of comparison websites in which you can specify what you need and they do the hard work for you. Travel insurance is a must, so plan ahead and get your plan lined up for your trip.
