Items you should never travel without

Since I’m an avid traveler I always seem to come across something I wish I’d brought with me, so I decided to compile a list of items that I would always take with me.

When you are planning a trip across the country or even across the world, you will be stuck asking yourself what you should pack. The answer might be different depending on the trip you are taking. You will need to keep in mind how long the trip is for and what you will be doing where you are going.

Take a look at your current accounts and make sure they will translate over to what you need in whatever country you are traveling within. A debit card is something useful to consider.

There will be a lot of factors that will play into your decisions, but there are some things that you will need to pack no matter where you go or what you do.

Essentials

The top three things you will need to pack are quite simple. As long as you have those three things, you can get by nearly anywhere.

Firstly, you will need your tickets. Whether you are taking a plane, a train, a bus or a boat, you will not get anywhere at all if you do not have your tickets!

Secondly, and just as important, pack your passport if you are traveling overseas. If you are staying in the country, make sure you have your driver’s license or some other form of picture ID.

Thirdly, take plenty of cash and other forms of payment with you. That means traveler’s checks, credit cards and other such items. If one of those things gets stolen or does not work in one area, you will have the others to fall back on in that event.

Useful Items

Those three simple things might sound easy enough, but many people want to take just a little bit more with them. There are several other things you will want to make sure you have with you in order to have an enjoyable trip.

No matter where you are going or what you plan to do, make sure you have good walking shoes and comfortable socks along with you.

Comfortable shoes are not only good for the traveling portion of the trip itself, but also for whatever you plan to do once you arrive.

A scarf is a significant entry; chose a pale colour and this will not only help if it’s cold but also to shield the sun if it’s too hot. Equally useful for covering up if you are in a Muslim country/religious site or an emergency towel!

You should also pack sunscreen, even if you are going to a cold, winter vacation destination. Sunscreen is important to your enjoyment in a tropical location, but the sun can also get to you where it is cold.

No matter where you go or what you are doing, you will want to make sure you are able to take memories home. A digital camera with extra cards and batteries is one of the most important items you will take in order to remember your trip.

When you travel overseas, you will also want to take a universal plug adapter so all of your items like hairdryers or computers will work in the electrical outlets anywhere you go.

In order to enjoy your walks in nature and even your time on the plane, take an MP3 player so you can listen to your favourite music.

Finally don’t forget to pack a map or guidebook to the area; this is vital if you want to make the most of discovering places on your trip.

Take a look at the simple and more complicated items and fine tune the list to suit your own personal needs. You will probably have to add or subtract a few things to make the list perfect for your travels.
