Pub Crawls In Western Europe

Pub Crawls in Western Europe vastly overshadow anything available elsewhere in the world ... scenes like this unfold every night in London!

With tonnes of history, local young people that are as eager to let their hair down as you are, and cheap to reasonable prices for a quality, tall frosty mug of beer, heading to Western Europe for a pub tour is one of the best booze-fueled trips you’ll make in your youth.

Your days will be filled with wanderings among ageless buildings and monuments, while your nights will play host to revelry that will rival any good times that you have likely ever experienced at home.  In today’s article, we will discuss three cities in particular that hold nightlife scenes that are conducive to epic pub crawls, be it self-driven or on an organized tour.

Before we begin though, realize that while going on an excursion like this may be loads of fun, it carries with it very real risks. Drinking alcohol in excess can affect your overall awareness, making you vulnerable to opportunistic criminals.

A pub crawl will also interfere with your ability to operate a motor vehicle, so it is a good idea to come up with an alternate mode of transportation before you begin. One such method is hiring a chauffeur to drive you around, as this ensures that you are safe at all times. By hiring someone to drive, you will not have to wait for taxis outside of your various venues, which is handy once you have had a few drinks and become more vulnerable to criminals. Some of these chauffeurs can even put you in touch with a companion for the evening, should that be of interest to you.

Even if you drink in moderation, your fellow mates may run into trouble.  Keep safe together by downloading a personal security app on your smartphones, so you can keep track of everyone’s whereabouts through the night, and alert each other and the authorities in the event of an encounter with a mugger/assailant.

With this prudent advisory out of the way, let’s talk about the best pub crawls in Western Europe!

London, England

Well known for being the home of some of the world’s most dedicated revelers, you’ll be in for a jolly good time in London. With a bevy of famous, well-loved beers such as Speckled Hen and Newcastle and ciders like Strongbow being domestic in this country, lovers of the drink will be at home here. The Prospect of Whitby, founded in 1520, awaits your patronage, and the delightfully named Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese bleeds authenticity, as the wood chips used to clean the floor of drink hundreds of years ago is still scattered on the ground to this day.

Amsterdam, Netherlands

Amsterdam should be the next stop on your merry tour through Western Europe, as the Dutch are famous for their open and liberal attitudes, making it a welcoming place for those of any persuasion.  In addition to the “coffee” shops, one can also find an abundance of quality mainstream nightlife here as well. Quaff an Amstel or Heineken on its home turf, or explore deeper into brews like La Trappe, which is bottled in pottery bottles with a fancy-schmancy cork stopper … ooh la la! Those looking for a good party that rages late into the night will love Pollux, while those looking to chill to smooth jazz can drop by Chet’s Jazz Café until their ennui subsides.

Munich, Germany

While Munich peaks during the globally famous Oktoberfest, the presence of this event in this Western German city belies its party credentials throughout the rest of the year. Brave the ultra-strong Bockbier, which at 16% alcohol by volume is stronger than wine, or just opt for well-celebrated brews like Oettinger or Beck’s, which is best enjoyed from a Das Boot glass (a big beer mug shaped like … you know, a boot). Augustiner Bräustuben is a must for those seeking an authentic German beer hall where the atmosphere will blow away any pub you’ve ever been to, as random strangers are seated in very close proximity to each other, making for a social experience where you can’t help but make new friends!

Western Europe: They Know How To Party

You may think you know how to throw down, but one trip to Western Europe will make us North Americans seem like uptight prudes. By going on a pan-European bender, you’ll have a time unlike any you’ve experienced before, and make new close friends that can only enrich your life.

The best pub crawl I ever went on was in Prague. Great beer. Top night and it only cost me about 6 quid!
