Why You Should Take the Opportunity to Study Abroad in Australia

Some colleges now offer their students the opportunity to study abroad. They can go to a variety of different places, including Italy, Australia, Spain, Japan, and the United Kingdom. A lot of students will choose to study abroad in Australia, because it has such an exotic feel to it and is all the way on the other side of the earth. Indeed, if you have the opportunity to do so, you need to go for it.

Why You Should Study Abroad in Australia

If you decide to study abroad, you have to realize that you will not be on vacation. Rather, you will actually live there for a while. This is quite a dramatic change and experience. There are a few reasons as to why Australia is the perfect destination for this, including:

  1. It is an exotic location.
  2. They speak English in Australia, so there is no language barrier.
  3. It is known to be one of the friendliest places on earth, with people dying to show you the great beaches and activities, including restaurants, museums, and more.
  4. It is perfect for lovers of outdoor activities, with opportunities to do anything from strenuous hiking to lazy days on the beach.

One of the greatest things about going to Australia, however, is that they started the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) program in 2000. This is a government program that aims to provide international students with protection when they come to Australia. In 2007, ESOS supported some 400,000 students that year alone. Furthermore, the government instated the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF), which ensures all schools meet certain quality standards.

If you are on a budget, which most students are particularly if they have to travel as far as Australia, then there is help out there for you as well. Thanks to the friendly exchange rates, you may find it is cheaper than living at home. It is certainly cheaper than studying abroad in the United Kingdom!

Considerations to Make Before Going to Australia

Perhaps the biggest thing to remember is that you will be on the southern hemisphere. What this means practically, is that summer is between December and March, whereas winter is from June to September. That said, there are parts of Australia where it is always summer, not unlike California or Florida in our own country. So make sure you look into the weather where you intend to go, and pack accordingly.

You should also look into everyday issues that you have to manage. For instance, consider your bank account and whether there is a branch in Australia that you can go to, or whether you will need to set up an account there. You also have to consider driving regulations if you want to drive (check your license and insurance), figure out where you are going to live, and consider things such as nightlife, shopping, and the local wildlife (and pests!).

But most of all, be ready to have the experience of a lifetime!
